A man has been charged following a Police investigation into alleged copper theft and damage to railway signalling cables in Tawa.
Porirua News reported earlier this month that signal cables had been damaged at the southern end of the Tākapu Road platform on 3 July.
The damage caused multiple signalling issues and disrupted rail services.
Wellington Police Sergeant Ryan Storey said officers executed a search warrant on 22 July, but the suspect was not at the address.
“Our officers returned to the address the next day and arrested a man in relation to this,” he said.
A 43-year-old man has been charged with intentional damage with intent to obtain a benefit or cause loss.
He is due to appear in the Porirua District Court on Friday, 24 July.
“Enquiries remain ongoing,” Sergeant Storey said.
