Norths Women Win Eleanor Roosevelt Cup at Sevens

Northern United Rugby Football Club’s women’s team have claimed the Eleanor Roosevelt Cup after a stellar performance across two days of intense competition at the American Ambassador Sevens Series, held on 29 November 2025 at Trentham Memorial Park.

Facing off against top teams from across the Wellington region, Norths Women emerged as tournament champions, finishing with a decisive 32–7 win over Petone in the final. The team’s path to victory was marked by resilience and teamwork, with standout wins over OBU, Avalon, and Wainuiomata throughout the day.

The American Ambassador Sevens, hosted by Upper Hutt Rams and Wellington Rugby Football Union, drew clubs from across the region for its second leg. Norths’ squad demonstrated consistency and flair across both legs of the series, bouncing back from early close losses to finish on top.

On Day 1, Norths opened with a hard-fought 17–10 victory over OBU, followed by a commanding 41–0 shutout of Wellington. After a tough 10–33 loss to Manawatū, the team regrouped to defeat Wainuiomata 26–5 before narrowly falling to Petone 14–19.

Their Day 2 resurgence began with a 22–7 revenge win over Petone, before going on to defeat Wellington (39–0), Avalon (43–5), Wainuiomata (31–10), and OBU (27–17) en route to the final.

Supporters and coaches were thrilled by the team’s spirited performance. “Congratulations Norths Women’s, it was special to witness your efforts,” commented top fan Ron Wood. “Just seeing the fun you all had as you battled it out throughout today. Thanks too to Coaches Johnny, Hayden, Kura, and Perry for your collective efforts with the 7’s trainings.”

The Norths’ victory is a testament to the growing strength of women’s rugby in the region and the club’s commitment to excellence. Their success adds another proud chapter to the Northern United RFC’s legacy.
