Porirua is set to host one of the biggest games of the year this Saturday, 6 December, as the Tokomanawa Queens play a national semi-final at Te Rauparaha Arena in the Tauihi Aotearoa women’s basketball league.
Tip-off is at 3pm, and the Queens are calling on the community to come out in force for their final home game of the season. Entry is free with a new, unwrapped toy, which will be donated to the Kindness Collective Foundation to support families in need this Christmas.
Thanks to the support of The Warehouse, this game is about more than basketball. It’s a chance for locals to come together, give generously, and get behind their team at a crucial moment in the national competition.
Mayor Anita Baker is encouraging everyone in the region to show up. “Let’s fill Te Rauparaha Arena, an awesome team supporting a fantastic cause,” she said.
The Queens represent the lower North Island in the professional Tauihi league and are one win away from a place in the grand final. The team has promised a special afternoon of entertainment and high-energy basketball.
“We’ve got something amazing planned for this one, Queens whānau,” the team shared. “This is our house, and we need your voices.”
Free tickets go live Monday at www.queens.nz, and fans are advised to get in early to avoid missing out.
