Long-time Titahi Bay resident Dawn McCormick, affectionately known as Mrs Mac, passed away peacefully at her home on 27 November 2025, aged 100.
Dawn’s life was one of extraordinary community service, artistic contribution, and family devotion. Known across Porirua for her energetic involvement in local theatre and the arts, she was a founding member of Porirua Little Theatre and a stalwart of the Mana Arts Society. Her creative spirit endured well into her later years, with her paintings featured in Whanganui’s Winter Exhibition after she moved north.

Porirua Mayor Anita Baker described her as “a true pillar of the city,” acknowledging her decades of dedication to community life.
“Mrs Mac’s legacy as a community champion will not be forgotten,” Baker said. “Her spirit of service and creative passion enriched the lives of so many.”
Together with her late husband Ken, Dawn raised three sons, Gary, Paul and Mark, in Porirua, where the family became deeply embedded in local life. All three boys attended Mana College, and the McCormick family home was a fixture first on Tireti Road, then Lambley Road.
Dawn’s centenary was marked in August with a joyful celebration attended by four generations of her family and tributes from across New Zealand and abroad, including messages from King Charles, Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro and the Prime Minister.
A celebration of Dawn’s life was held at Forrest Lawn Chapel, 208 Guyton Street, Whanganui, on Wednesday 3 December, followed by a private cremation. The service is also available to view online via Dempsey & Forrest Funeral Home.
Mrs Mac’s warmth, talent and unwavering commitment to others have left a lasting imprint on the Porirua community.
