Porirua residents earn King’s Birthday honours

Porirua residents Adrienne Jansen, Okesene Seanoa Faraimo and Pania Kahuna Houkamau-Ngaheu have been recognised in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours for their contributions to writing, culture and community service.

Three Porirua residents have been recognised in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours for their contributions to literature, culture and community service.

Author and publisher Adrienne Jansen was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) for services to writing and publishing.

Jansen has spent decades documenting New Zealand stories and supporting emerging writers, helping bring local voices and experiences to a wider audience.

Okesene Seanoa Faraimo was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) for services to the community and to Tokelau language and culture.

His work has helped preserve and promote Tokelauan language, identity and traditions within Porirua and across New Zealand.

Community leader Pania Kahuna Houkamau-Ngaheu received the King’s Service Medal (KSM) for services to the community.

The awards highlight the strength of Porirua’s diverse communities and the significant contributions residents continue to make in cultural preservation, storytelling and community development.

The honours were announced as part of the King’s Birthday celebrations on June 1.
