Porirua leaders mourn councillor Mike Duncan

Porirua City Councillor Mike Duncan, of Tītahi Bay, has died suddenly after serving on Porirua City Council since 2016.

Porirua councillors are paying tribute to Mike Duncan, of Tītahi Bay, who has died suddenly after serving on Porirua City Council since 2016.

Duncan’s death was announced on Sunday afternoon by Mayor Anita Baker, who described him as a much-loved colleague and friend.

Porirua City Councillor Ross Leggett said the news was devastating for those who had served with Duncan.

“He was passionate about his family and his community,” Leggett said.

“We were lucky to have him.”

Porirua City Councillor Kathleen Filo also offered condolences to Duncan’s whānau.

“So sorry to hear this sad news,” Filo said.

“Condolences and aroha to Mike’s loving big whānau. Moe mai rā, rest in peace Mike.”

Baker said Duncan had worked diligently for the community and the city he grew up in and raised his family in.

“The council table will simply not be the same without Mike’s insightful input, attention to detail, sense of humour and kind smile,” Baker said.

“You will be hugely missed, Mike. Moe mai rā.”

Duncan represented Tītahi Bay and had served as a councillor since 2016.
