Belmont Regional Park is set to be abuzz with activity this Sunday, 11 August, as the New Zealand Army Reserves conduct navigation and fieldcraft training exercises within the park. Starting from the Hill Street entrance, the reserves will be dressed in full uniform and carrying unloaded weapons. Park visitors are advised not to be alarmed if they encounter the soldiers during their visit, whether on foot or bicycle.
In addition to the military exercises, a significant plant relocation operation will take place. Helicopters will be used to transport plants to hard-to-reach areas of Belmont, specifically targeting the top of Korokoro Valley and the west of Transmission Gully near Cannons Creek. This operation is crucial for the ongoing conservation efforts within the park.
Despite these activities, Belmont Regional Park will remain open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to adhere to any instructions from contractors and follow posted signage to ensure their safety while enjoying the park’s natural beauty.
